Pay for parts to boiler as a tenant?

Hi,
I rent a property on a 2 year lease and we pay extra annually for the boiler to be serviced. (This is in our contract I think)
The landlord has said the boiler needs servicing again and has mentioned we will have to pay for parts too. (We have paid for parts before but only amounted to £5). Can they legally make us pay for parts? It doesn't sound fair, but if they can then I will say I will take those parts with me when I move as I paid for them.
Any help and advice will be appreciated.
Andy

Are you in England, Wales or Scotland? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

I have no idea of the legals but it sounds like you are not getting any deposit back from this pathetic landlord without a fight.0

You need to read your tenancy agreement that you agreed to and I guess signed!
I have never heard of a tenant having to pay for repairs to a boiler so this is completely new to me. I also pay the service agreements on my properties so that is new to me too!0 -
When you vacate the property, will you be able to take the parts with you? Or if your landlord trades in the boiler on a PEX deal, will you get a %? :rotfl: Tongue in cheek comments of course, but seems a bit rich to me unless as has already been said you've agreed to do this in the tenancy agreement ...0

I work for British Gas. It's very unusual for tenants to pay for the servicing of the boilers (that's normally the landlord), yet alone pay for the parts.
Did you damage the boiler yourself in any way? If not, I would've thought that would be normal wear and tear?0 -
What kind of boiler is it? Gas /oil?
If it is a gas boiler then you need to read this:
http://england.shelter.org.uk/get_advice/repairs_and_bad_conditions/home_safety/gas_safety/responsibility_for_gas_safety
It is your landlord's legal responsibility to carry out an annual gas safety check and provide you with sight of the certificate.
I do not believe that he can offload this legal responsibility to you and I would have thought that this clause in the contract is unenforceable. However, I am not a legal expert.
Give Shelter a call and take their advice.0 -
The agreement says as follows -
Tenant Repairs
Maintain at his expense annual service contracts with approved engineers for all installations and apparatus and to obtain and provide to the Landlord copies of all necessary certificates of testing and maintenance and to keep such installations fully maintained.0 -

I would plan to move out before the house needs a new boiler!0
