dormant possibly overdrawn account

afternoon all, i can't find much information on this so i thought i'd ask on here if anyone has some ideas..
i have a dormant bank account with lloyds that's probably about 20 years old. but i have a sinking suspicion it might have been overdrawn. if it is/was, it would only have been by about £20.
i never used it after getting the original £20 out, i didn't have a cheque book, or statements, i don't remember any correspondence from them, and i never put anything in it.
i'm presuming the account is dormant or lost. but if it is overdrawn, it doesn't appear on my credit check as a debt.
the thing is i want to bank with them (same branch), because i have my money in the coop and want to divide it and switch some.
i'm quite prepared to pay them back the £20, although it might be £700 if the charges were cumulative over all that time, which i couldn't pay. do charges stop if an account becomes dormant?
the only banks where i don't have a debt are coop or lloyds, but then there's this snag. does anyone have an idea what they might have done with this account, and would it prevent me opening an account with them?
thanks in advance

Please answer the following questions, as it may help with answer.
Are you living at the same address as when you had Lloyds a/c?
Do you owe money to other Banks as your post suggests?

If it was 20 years ago since you last used it, the account will most likely have been closed/written off long ago, if the OD was only £20. I also doubt that Lloyds records go back that far so they will probably not be aware that you ever had an account with them.

hi, thanks for the reply. i'm not at the same address no. and yes i have a DMP which is for paying off my debts with some other banks.
i checked my credit score before i joined the DMP which is how i know lloyds isn't on it. but it's possible lloyds won't accept me anyway, although since i've had the DMP i've not been overdrawn and i'm on top of my finances. If it was 20 years ago since you last used it, the account will most likely have been closed/written off long ago, if the OD was only £20. hi there. that would be ok if that's the case, although i'm not sure whether to say to them to check if it still exists.0 -
Go for it. If they don't let you open one, the search will not make much difference to your rating.
Maybe you would be better off with a savings account.

thanks, yes i probably will go for it i reckon. if i change, my question would be whether to ask them to search for the previous account or not, and do charges stop if an account becomes dormant and it was overdrawn? i don't want a sudden massive shock trying to organise this. i'm not sure whether to have a savings account or a vantage account, because i'd need access to the money instantly for a deposit (for house renting not buying).0 -

Even if they still had records, which is doubtful, a 20 year old debt that you haven't had contact about in over six years would be statute barred.
I doubt they'd pursue you for £20 to be honest. I would just pretend it doesn't exist, mainly because I doubt it actually does.urs sinserly,
