change bank account details

I changed bank accounts a few months ago and notified all the organisations I thought necessary. I was told by one bank where I have a fixed-term bond that they will not change details unless I send them a certified copy of a bank statement. I have given them details of my old account and the new one. They say that unless I comply they will simply send proceeds from my bond to the old bank. That seems stupid and possibly illegal as I have given them my change of details. I will not send the required certified copy. Are they acting legally?

Can you not send them the original?
They have to be extremely stupid to insist that a certified copy is better than the original.0 -
Thanks grumbler. I probably could send the original, although I don't receive paper statements, so either request is difficult. My concern is one of principle; why should the bank not accept my word that the account has been moved?0
