Building Regs - Converted property

Options
Hi,

Am purchasing a property which was an office and has been converted into 2 flats (top and bottom).

I am at this stage having searches completed by the surveyors but have found out myself something quite worrying (atleast i think so)

I Have found out that the building has not been signed off by the council yet, something to do with windows on one side of the property being too close to the boundary and needing to be changed to firesafe windows, which will not open, have heard that another alternative to this would be to build another window on the outside of the windows which are firesafe. From what i know about firesafe windows is that they are the horrible kind with wire running through them, not what i really want in my house.

What i want to know is, id the building is not signed of by the council and i proceed to go ahead, what does this mean for me in the short term and long term.?

Until the building is signed off, do not proceed.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

If you proceed as is, then You would be liable for the contraventions to the building.

You would be best placed waiting for the completion certificate.

As an aside, modern fire-safe windows are available without the "Georgian wire" in them.

Thankyou just what i wanted to hear about them being available with the gerorgian wire, would not be happy if the windows in my home looked like that!

I wont be signing anything until i have seen the completion certificate and see what has been done about the windows.
