Jobs advertising "pro rata " salaries

How stupid and annoying is this ?
Just say what the actual salary is.

e.g. pro rate salary £52416 ( assuming working 365 days a year 24 hours a day), but it is actually £6 per hour for 16 hours per week, so true salary £4992:o

Pro rata rates are normally based on the usual full time hours. Have you really seen a job advertised on the basis you mention above?
  • The pro-rata salary refers to the full time equivalent, not assuming you work every hour in a year.

I'd be surprised if you have seen that specific advert - completely bizarre and misleading if you have!

Based on the idea that the 'usual' expected working week is 40hrs that is a salary of £20800 approx for 16hrs a week.

Its not done on 24/7 as the others have said.

We usually give both the f/t rate and the pro rata rate. It should not be based on a 24 hour day!

I'm not sure if the original post is a joke or not.

Eg like others here have said

£25k for a 5 day a week job would be for 3 days paid as this
25,000/5X3 = £15000 for the 3 days a week but could be just advertised as £25k pro rata

While the OP uses a ridiculous example it is very annoying when it's impossible to work out what pro-rata really means from the information given - if employers are advertising a part time position they should be clear about both the full time salary and hours for the job and the same for part time.

When discussing a full-time role with an agency recently I was told that "the salary is £x per annum pro-rata".

When I asked pro-rata of what and to what I got into an utterly bizarre conversation where the woman clearly had absolutely no idea what pro-rata meant but systematically used it whenever quoting any salary rate.

Like I needed any further reason to despair of the recruitment industry.... :o

£6 is below minimum wage anyhow.
