So sick of these bugs!

My DD (2.5) started playschool in March (3 mornings a week). We expected her to pick up the inevitable "starter's cold" by Easter, which she did (and passed into us).
However, since then we've all had bugs continuously. I've had bronchitis, DD had a chest infection, now I have a sore throat, mouth full of ulcers and a swollen tongue, plus ear infection. It's been like having a cold which worsens into something else, then back to a cold and so on. DD has had antibiotics. We're both still coughing a lot, and DH had to cancel a marathon this weekend because he hasn't been able to train for weeks and weeks now. I wondered whether the lousy weather wasn't helping.
I've been at less than full strength for about 8 weeks.
Is this normal when a child starts playschool?!

It is a bit but does preschool have a policy about not allowing sick children back for48 hours after they are better? When ours introduced that it helped.
Otherwise obsessive handwashing!0 -
Yes

My LO started nursery in November. She was ill almost constantly with one thing after another until Feb. Me and OH also suffered with infections. We're all still having periodic illnesses now, but at least they're becoming more infrequent.
It's been incredibly draining.Mortgage when started: £330,995

They don't prevent children with colds from going, so that probably doesn't help!!!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Sounds very normal to me. DD1 was ill with everything under the sun when she started going to nursery. Was ill for a year. It did start getting better but as she hadn't been introduced to kids earlier she had all the bugs in one go. just their immune system trying to protect them from common illnesses

I now have her on some vitamins These and she is one of the healthiest in the class. (could be due to the tablets or could be because she got over all the illnesses when she was younger)What's yours is mine and what's mine is mine..0 -

DD has been around other children since birth, and had colds etc before. She's always shaken them off really quickly. She isn't too bad with them (just coughs at night) it's us adults that are struggling to fight the bugs!! I have some liquid vitamins and iron here. I'll try and get her to take some.Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -
As she's 2.5, I'd try her on the kind of tablets that I use. DD2 uses them and shes 3 in august but had them since 2.5 and can chew them fine
I did run out of them a few weeks ago ad DD1 came home with a rotten cold which DD2 subsequently caught so I think there is something good in them
Good Luck though, I know that being ill constantly is rubbish

Then probably your best defence is obsessive hand hygiene.0 -

It gets worse..
Wait until you start formal LEA nursery where they get really snotty if you start affecting their attendance rates.
Basically you will get "everything" as parents are desperate to get the kids into the associated school.
This means they won't/can't afford to keep them off and stuff goes round and round and round.
I think it's not always the hygiene aspect that ends up getting you it's the disturbed sleep that ends up wearing you down.
I assume it gets better as my parents are both still alive
