I take your point (and have read the thread you refer to), but provided you never leave the other driver alone in the car with the keys I don't think there should be a problem. On the flip-side I would never buy a car privately without being able to test drive the car myself.
Unless they are a trader, the chances of them being isured are virtually zero. Not only could you lose your car but your license as well. Allowing someone to drive your vehicle uninsured is a very serious offense.

On a pre-existing policy, yes, but not if they take out insurance specifically to test drive the car.

In The Olden Days, it was quite common for a comprehensive policy to cover driving any motor vehicle that you do not own, and is not hired under a hire purchase agreement (3rd party only)
Recently this has changed to any motor car, and is also fast disappearing from policies at renewal.
This has caught quite a few older drivers out, as we expect the same cover for ever, and don't read the 4pt print.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

(except air quality and Medical Science ;))

Go to your bank with the buyer to pay the money in and complete the sale.

I think we had a lucky escape as it goes.

hubby rang them back this afternoon (having arrange a 1/2 day holiday tomorrow to suit them) and said he would require a trip to the bank to do this if they were to go ahead and they backed out very suddenly.

the we buy any car dot com organisations are starting to look slightly attractive.
