Driving from Toronto to Ottawa

Has anyone done this drive? According to Google maps, its a 4hr30min drive. Is that realistic?

I've not actually driven that myself, I used the train. I normally use mapquest for north american journey times though and they give a time of 4 hours 50 minutes. So I'd say 4.5 - 5 hours which seems about right for normal driving conditions - obviously if it's the rush hour or a bank holiday then you'd have to increase the time.

Toronto - Montreal is about 7 hours (downtown to downtown) if that helps you with a sense of scale.
  • I've done this route several times on the Greyhound bus, that takes 5 hours but you stop for about 20 minutes. Plus cars are generally quicker than buses so I'd say four hours if there's little traffic.

I've done that route by car, it took about 4.5 hrs to 5 hrs, depending how long you stop for (we stopped for about 20mins on the way to break the journey)

I lived in Ottawa and did it quite a few times. It'll take you 4 to 4.5 hours to get to the outskirts of TO and anything from half an hour to two hours to get to your destination depending on traffic conditions and where you're going in TO.

EDIT: ha, I read that the wrong way round but it still applies as it can take a while to get out of TO if traffic's bad.
