Broadband Charges

Hello,

I have a friend (who is a student) who is currently renting a room in a place with 24 rooms in total. In the tenancy agreement, then it says if they want to have internet, they need to pay £8/month for it. However, as far as I can tell, the entire building is served by 2 incoming internet connections, costing at most £50/month.
With gas and electric then the landlord can only charge however much they pay for the utilities, does this apply to broadband as well - or can the landlord say they are charging £8/month, and then pay less than that for the broadband?

I am not sure, but I think given that the rules for reselling of electricity were only tightened up fairly recently by the relevant regulator, I wouldn't be surprised if it is not yet controlled.

They are so slow. Probably too busy trying to score jobs from the firms they regulate.

It's not at all controlled. They can charge what they like.
