Don't know what to look for in a PC

Evening,

I want to buy a PC and possibly a Laptop.

My total max budget is £800 for both.

I've had a chat with everyone that will be using the computers and there aren't many specific requirements.

A bigger screen on the laptop is better as it will be used to watch films.

The desktop will be going on a small desk in a student rental so we think a smaller monitor will be better, and to be able to put the 'box' on the floor under the desk.

Both computers will need to be able to run the game Freelancer and the laptop play Mine Craft.

Ideally the desktop will also play Dungeon Keeper and Diggles.

I have been told this might need a partition - I'm not sure how these work.

I know these are unusual requirements, but hopefully you can help me workout what machines I need and help me find a good price.

Why do you need 2 machine?
Is £800 for the tower and laptop only? Do you need to include monitor?

I need two machines as there will be two people needing to use them at the same time most of the time.

Two desktops would be acceptable, but MUCH less desirable.

Sorry if it wasn't clear, but the desktop will need a monitor but it will have to be a small one.

There is a shop near by that does small old monitors for £50 and one of these should be fine.

I understand that the games I have listed are all fairly old and therefore I need the 'right' machines rather than high spec off the shelf ones.

I am capable of replacing some computer components in a desktop, the main issue I'm having is working out what build I would need for the system to best run all of the required games and if I can just buy that.

Edit to add. I can be flexible on the budget if needed, so say its only the laptop and tower and I will source other items as needed.

have you looked at ebuyer? they have decent priced machines that would fit the bill. Do you need a new monitor for the desktop? otherwise i'd get a low level gaming PC for around £450 (barebones) and a £350 laptop you surely can find a resonable spec for that on there

£254 17inch laptop from Dell (I guess Freelancer and Mine Craft are both web-based and so should run ok)

Thankyou all,

Freelancer and mine craft will both run on windows 8 (with some tweaking) so very happy with that as a laptop.

Will have to spend some time looking at the desktops as diggles in particular is hard to run at the best of times.

And further advice greatly appreciated but help so far has also been fab.
