kindle fire hd 16gb storage issue

Hi
i have a kindle fire Hd 16gb. when i go to "device" and then "storage" it tells me i have 840mb of 12.6gb space available....
1- should it not have 16gb all together?
it then gives me a break down of where my storage is used i.e video 152kb, music 45mb, photos 1mb, personal videos 3.7gb, apps 848mb and then at the end it says Others 7.3GB?
2- whats "others" thats using 7.3 GB?
ive ran out of space and i personally dont think ive got that much stuff looking at the break down????
