Hi everyone.
Moving into a new unfurnished flat and need to buy a bed and mattress. We already have the Hemnes bedside tables, is the bed any good? http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S49002272/
If anyone has any recommendations for a reasonably priced double mattress please help us. We are on a limited budget and they must deliver as although we both drive we don't have cars with us down here.
Thanks!!

I have bought a mattress recently from mattressman.co.uk. The mattress I bought had hundreds of good reviews, free delivery and was reasonably priced (there may be a discount code if you search).
I liked the site because of the numbers of reviews on some of the products and I would buy from them again.0 -
I wouldnt touch the bed you are looking at because of the wooden slats. Those type of beds never seems to last long,englishrose19 wrote: »Hi everyone.

Pretty bed but for a guest room it will be perfect0 -
You can buy double sized wooden beds from about £100 at various places such as BedStar.co.uk. I have one from that shop in the guest room, and it is surprisingly good, with a varnished pine frame, and surprisingly solid pine slats. I think it is this one:

The quality is not as good as my solid oak bed frame made in Lincolnshire, but it cost 1/4 of the price.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Personally I wouldn't buy Ikea beds because they are continental sizes, so bedding from other shops won't fit.0

Our bed and matress both are from IKEA.
Matress is IKEA sultan range. I wont change it for anything!! Its the MOST COMFORTABLE matress I ever had. There is more to life than increasing its speed.0 -
We have a Hemnes bed and a sultan mattress. They're fine. There did used to be a bit of a problem with the IKEA midbeams being too narrow, so the slats used to fall off taking the middle of the mattress with it. However, they seem to have fixed it now and they don't make those midbeams any more (I think they were called Hamar, or something ...) - we bought a new one a year or so ago and we haven't had a problem since. The mattress is fine too, really comfy although I do find you need to just readjust the slats and everything every six months or so.
The only real annoyance is as someone else mentioned, in that IKEA sizes are all continental so you can't just buy high street bedding - you are pretty much limited to going to IKEA for duvets and bedding. That's annoying as the range at IKEA isn't great, although if you don't mid plain white bedding then the more expensive stuff washes really well.0 -
We always buy our furniture at antiques shops, auctions and through ebay. As you're not able to transport furniture yourself, auctions are, I suppose, out of the question. Most antiques shops, however, will deliver for a small fee, and you can find the most beautiful items for less by asking to see their stock room - often they'll have items they've acquired but which need a bit of touching up or a minor repair lurking in a back room, and often they'll take a lot less for them than they would if they were in the showroom. We have a stunning 1930s solid carved oak bed complete with spring base which we bought from an antique shop back room for £50 as it had a few scratches which needed attention. A bottle of furniture restoring polish from the supermarket sorted the scratches for a couple of quid.
As for mattresses, I'd have a look at independent shops - you're much more likely to get a much better deal (if you're prepared to have a bit of a haggle with them) than you ever would from a bed superstore.0 -

i agree ours is teh same with teh matress from the sultan range and its amazing and cheap enoiugh that if it does start to wear in 2-3 years its no worries having to replace. but so far had it about 6 months and i swear everynight i get in bed i comment that its amazing lol0 -
I wouldnt touch a bed with those slats either, flat wooden slats are okay but not sprung wooden slats, more trouble than they,re worth.0
