Travel Insurance - Annual or single trip?

Options
Hi all,

Firstly I may look like a newbie but I'm not. I've been using this website for over a decade but I have a problem accessing (forgotten password:() my old account so I now look like a novice.

Anyway moving on, I'm a little baffled by the option to buy single trip or annual travel insurance. I have used Lloyds TSB to get a quote and the prices don't make a great deal of sense. I can get annual worldwide (inc USA) insurance for less than I can get 14 night insurance to Mexico. This really doesn't sound right so I'm nervous that I'm not getting that I should be. Does anyone have any experience of buying these types of insurance. Are there any catches with these? Can someone explain the logic of this offer?

Thanks guys.

Have you entered scuba diving on the single trip quote?
  • Ha ha. Down to 30 metres the insurance is covered. Additional cover would be needed if I went deeper than 30 metres.

If you have more than 1 holiday a year I would probably go with the annual one anyway.
We have ours through our bank.
  • We do sometimes go away for city breaks.

Have a look at the annual ones on the moneysaving forum or the comparison sites.

This is a well-known quirk in travel insurance - people travelling to America/ Canada/ Caribbean and occasionally Mexico quite often find that an annual policy can be cheaper than a single trip policy - so don't worry about it. (This is especially true in the case of couples when annual policies are nowhere near twice the price of a single person).

You don't need to go on more than one holiday to qualify for annual travel insurance - the only point to note is that you should start the annual travel insurance to start as soon as possible.

Thanks weejonnie. Looks like I'm going to get a bargain then.
