    Not quite.

"Holidaymakers to the Red Sea Resorts, such as Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, are not affected by the change of advice and will be able to continue their holidays as planned; the resorts are operating as usual."

Yeah, there is a good reason why Egypt is cheap; not safe at the moment; no-one going there.

Over the past couple of decades there have been many violent attacks on tourists in Egypt. Gunmen opened fire on a Nile cruiser and near the Pyramids, Britons were casualties in an ambush of a tourist bus and scores of tourists were killed in the Luxor Massacre. Bombs targeting tourist hotels in Sharm-el-Sheikh killed 88 people in 2005. Despite this long history of violence, and a more recent revolution and army coup, about a million Britons visit Egypt every year. The Foreign and Commonwealth Office does not advise against travel to Sharm but warns of "a high threat from terrorism" and says that Cairo airport should be used for transit only (do not leave the airport grounds). In areas where demonstrations have occurred the violence against women has been particularly sickening. Last year the FCO handled 23 cases of sexual assault and 6 cases of rape. Some assaults were against minors. Many occurred in what were considered to be safe places such as hotels.

I don't do the lottery. Similarly I don't take unecessary risks with holiday destinations. Of course things can go wrong wherever you go but using some common sense in the first place helps avoid trouble. All I was saying was that there was an obvious reason why Red Sea holidays were being discounted; some people disagreed with that but I think I have been proved right.
