My wife has been unemployed for a while now and I only work two days a week. Thankfully she has now managed to gain a full time job. We got behind with our elec/gas payments but as she now gets paid weekly we can start to pay the bill about (£400) off.
We rang tonight to explain our repayment plan. The guy on the other end wanted a payment of £125 to cancel a visit from a rep who would discuss payment options. When we said we didn't have £125 to pay out tonight he asked if we could borrow it and was quite pushy. Why when we offered to pay about £50 a week to clear the bill he wasn't interested?. Can we try another route to avoid this guy coming round?, apparently we get charged £55 for a visit that isn't really necessary.

Morning scrounger,
I'm sorry to hear about this situation that you're in, I know this is a worry.
It sounds like the account has gone quite far down the debt collection route if a visit is the next step.
To stop this I understand we would normally ask for a payment of half or part of the balance before setting up an arrangement.
It will also depend on if previous payment arrangements have failed in the past.
But, I would really like to help you if I can. You will need to be paying enough to cover your usage and pay off the balance. We also need to check if your on the best tariff and make sure the account is billed up to date.
