What is a well fired roll I have never heard of them, are they like drop scones?
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh drop sconesThey are something else delicious altogether
A well fired roll is a burnt roll.fact.
Not a fact beanie :rotfl:marmiterulesok wrote: »So it's just a plain white roll that's burnt?(Ignorant Scot here....I haven't lived in Scotland for a long time!:o).
No, no, no, well err yes.......sort ofQuick one to try and describe well fired rolls. Firstly, its important to know I don't like the taste of burnt food (unlike OH) but I do love these
They are similar to a crusty type roll, but they don't have the crusty top (which actually scratches my mouth)
I'm doing a bad job at explaining, but they are like a soft morning roll, generally a bit bigger than the morning rolls we get in the UK, and a little more of a chewy texture. The crust is then cooked a little longer past the normal golden brown, but I like them as they aren't crumbly and are still soft. Closest i've found is Scotch morning rolls in Tacto but even they aren't quite the same.
I would describe them as a large soft morning roll but with a more open and lighter texture than you get in the shops. The texture inside is light and airy with lots of larger air bubbles not stodgy like packet rolls. The top crust is crusty but not as crusty as a crusty rollMaybe like a croissant??????? and actually the crust is the colour of a croissant too but when you get a well fired one it just means the crust is darker than usual BUT IS NOT BURNT :rotfl:The inside is just the same
Kerri is right they are really difficult to explain so you should all come to Scotland to try them :T
They are even better with a Scotch pie in them:o No wonder I am on a permanent diet

I am really angry. Today was a spend day for Mr T's delivery... which did not turn up! Then money still left my account, to be refunded within 3-5 days & then it will be taken again tomorrow & the delivery made tomorrow morning instead. Bearing in mind the location of the door to DH's usual spot at his computer, plus the timing of the delivery right in the middle of mini-lilt's nap when all is silent; I do NOT believe the drivers notes on the account, that he 'knocked, with no response'
So not an NSD by default & also by the fact that we had zero food for dinner thanks to the lack of a delivery 2 weeks after the last one. So fish & chips was had.£12.40 to be made somehow to cover that. And tomorrow is Fathermageddon - where I buy all the fathers day gifts required in our household & cards. I don't resent that though; love my daddy & baby-daddy
Hope you all had a better day than me!
Have you called Tesco CS? I would complain and push for some kind of compensation like a % off your next shop for them not turning up.freebyfifty wrote: »

Ohhh haven't had a Scotch pie for ages, in fact I think it was prob a year ago when we bought some back with us. Since then OH has turned veggie (not related to the pies :rotfl:) We can get some down here but I never really think to buy them - usually have them at the football...not to eat but to hold in your hands to warm them up :rotfl:
Other fav delicacies in a well fired roll being syrup, or square sausage.
So, morning, err afternoon all...well I went to bed at 10.30 last night and did not arise from the pit until nearly midday  However, I was still shattered from the drive home on Tues and three very busy days back at work, plus I'm travelling again next week with a full schedule so I thought s*d it, why shouldn't I bank some Zzzzzz's. Going to have a lovely lazy day today which I hope includes a NSDJust had the washing out blowing in the wind (a good drying day as my FIL would say) but had to whip it in out of the rain now - still, means anything I was thinking I should do outside now has a legit excuse for not being done

Afternoon all
Hope everyone is well. I have been a bit elusive with my postings this month but have just read through the thread though. You lot sure do chat a lotand wanted to say thanks for your good wishes on the no smoking.
We have a mixture of heavy rain, cloudy sunshine and wind. I think summer may have forgotten to make an appearance again this year!!
Freeby, well done on quitting. Sorry to read your dog was unwell but pleased he is on the mend.
Marmite, 13 years is a long time ..... I hope I have the same stamina as you! If you use £5 a pack as a ball park figure you have saved something in the region £23,740!!
Suzitiger, I haven't saved the money daily like some do so I can't say I have seen the benefit in that way financially but of course it's helped in other ways and is my incentive to stay off them!
Kathy, I am a big cat lover. Well done on taking in the kitten. I would find it difficult to say no.
Kerri, glad you enjoyed your break in Scotland.
If, loved all the picture captions, thanks!
I have already been back to work now for over a week and have struggled to be honest. Despite having a temp I went back to quite a heavy workload which I finished ploughing through yesterday so a good end to the week. I have been exhausted every evening and today I didn't get up until 11.30. My excuse is that it was my first full week back! Clearly, I was missed though, lots of welcome back e-mails etc, etc.
I have still kept up with my challenge and my tally so far is 9 NSDs and today is 5 in-a-row (in-a-row target met and exceeded)
Saturday (1st) & Sunday (2nd), Wednesday (5th), Friday (7th)
Tuesday (11th), Wednesday (12th), Thursday (13th), Friday (14th) and today.
I can't believe tomorrow we will be half way through June
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Good Afternoon folks:),
I have been very busy with work this week, so forgive me for going awol:o. I hope everyone is well, as I've yet to catch up on the posts. The weather in NI has been Monsoonlike since last night and I honestly can't believe the amount of rain in the middle of June:eek:. This week, I managed to grab NSDs 6&7 on Tuesday and Wednesday:). I had spend days on Thursday and Friday though and although I got a small bet up today, will spend that and a little more on my dads present for tomorrow, so am on 7NSDs at the moment. I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend so far and staying dry.:)If you've nothing decent to say, perhaps you shouldn't say anything.
