Scottish power installing economy 7 meter
Hi All,
We moved into a rented property back in December to find it had prepay meters for gas and electric, after much hassle with SP we managed to pay them to come take these out so we could pay by D/D
However the Electric is on economy 7 - After being on it for a month and not receiving any info / prices i called customer services to see what tarif i was on. at the moment its a standard economy 7 tarif, nice to know that they put you on their expensive tarif until you call them up.
Anyway i don't wont economy 7 as don't use much electric at night and SP haven't been much help, if i move to another supplier will they be able to change the meter to a standard rate one on a good tarif?
Thanks

I believe some suppliers will change the meter for free, I would also be interested in anyone has a list?
I have an E7 meter and when I was E.ON, I could be on a 'normal' tariff and just add the day and night readings together. Scottish Power don't seem to let you do that however so I am looking at changing supplier and/or getting a non-E7 meter installed.0 -
Normally, for cosmetic changes i.e. a request from E7> Single will cost. Unless pre-pay > Credit it isn't required so they normally charge.0

HiYa Andyph,
Careful what you wish for my friend, E7 provides 365 days of room heating and 365 days of boiling hot water for around 30% less than the non E7 electric rate. E7 in the winter is expensive E7 costs between now and next winter are tiny, over a year it will cost £1000+ for water & heat. Before you jump make sure you have alternative water & room heating.
Any / all suppliers always put a 'deemed' customer on the most expensive tariff they have, they all do this, its standard industry practice. It's up to you the customer to check / ask / switch - its just the way it is Andyph.
BG would have changed the meters I]subject to a credit check[/I free, SP always charge.
Best of luck Andyph.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Yes switch to a supplier that understands what customer service actually means. Scottish power will charge approx £50 to change your meter so that they can then supply you with the most suitable single rate tariff that you require!
When you have switched you can then request a free change to a single rate tariff. see here:doh: Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
From my own experience, Scottish Power do charge for a meter changeand nPower do let you add readings.0
