Counter cheques

Has anyone had any experience with a Nationwide counter cheque?
I'm looking to make a payment to a department that only accepts postal orders, banker's drafts, or cheques. I don't have a cheque book (I thought they died years ago), and NW don't do drafts.
Is the counter cheque in the account holders name, or does it just list the payee and the bank?
Thanks

A counter cheque or building society cheque is similar to a Bankers Draft.
With a counter cheque Nationwide will remove the funds from your account into one of there holding accounts and then issue a cheque to that amount to the person or organisation you are going to pay.
You then send this to who your going to pay the counter cheque to and voila its banked in the same way a cheque is. The organisation will get there money as it has already been taken from your account.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -
Thanks.
It's just the organisations states they don't accept 3rd party cheques, so I was trying to figure out if i'd be ok with a counter check.0 -
I thought Nationwide charged £10 for a Counter Draft.
They issue a cheque book with a FlexAccount, so it may be worthwhile opening a current account of some form.0 -
You can order them via Internet Banking and it will be posted to your home address. No mention of a charge. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
