Re-claiming from a closed credit card account

Hi all
I don't know if you can help or not, but just thought I'd ask. Here is the situation... I very stupidly (I wish I'd used this forum before now!!) agreed to go with a PPI company in early 2011 and I made an upfront payment on my credit card. The PPI company advised me to make the payment on my credit card because they said that as part of the investigation the CC company might pay this off too as part of a settlement (I thought this was a load of bull at the time). However, said PPI company have since gone bust (Lifestyle Claims), so I assumed Id lost my money and just going to have to swallow it.
I've now been contacted by another company who have taken over the files for Lifestyle Claims and are checking in on any open files. Now one person has said that my claim wasn't successful, but someone else has given me another number to ring to check. Regardless of the success, they did say that I can either make a claim to the executors to be added to the list of creditors for my upfront payment, or I could contact the credit card company to see if they will refund as part of the consumer act. However, I have now closed this credit card because it's all paid off and I wanted nothing more to do with it, but I just wondered if there was anyway I could still try to claim the money back via them? I only closed the CC off about 4 - 6 weeks ago, it's typical and just my luck!!
Sorry for a very longwinded post, hope someone can help

A lie i'm afraid.I've now been contacted by another company who have taken over the files for Lifestyle Claims and are checking in on any open files.
Lifestyle were a known dodgy company. I wouldn't hold out much hope if a related company has their files and acts the same way.Now one person has said that my claim wasn't successful, but someone else has given me another number to ring to check. You could apply under section 75 of the consumer credit act for failed companies not providing services. However, if your complaint with the company proceeded and was rejected then you effectively got the service you paid for.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
