Hi,
I was wondering if someone can help me, my car is just under 3 years old and is due a service. I want to trade it in for a different one in a few years time
With this in mind if the service is done though the dealership will the car be worth more than if a local garage did it?
Dealership services are at least £100 more expansive than local garages, however I don’t mind paying the extra if I know the car will be worth more when it time comes when I get rid.
Thank you

What car is it? I've found haggling with main dealers actually brings the price down to comparable amounts.
Also being under 3 years old, what if something is wrong with the car? A main dealer should cover most non wear and tear items under the warranty and do any recalls or software updates.0 -
I very much doubt not having a full main dealer service history on any main stream car is going to stop you from selling it privately, or as you say you are going to trade it in you will be getting the lowest price for it anyway.
Unless its a Lotus, Porsche, Bugatti etc etc then I would get it serviced anywhere....if it was one of them sports cars you probably wouldn't be worrying about spending £100 extra on main dealer services."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -
Still in warranty get it serviced at the main dealer until it is out of warranty (as has been said above). Then go to your local mechanic.0

If its still in warranty as long as the independent garage use OEM parts and follow the correct schedule you can use them0

And they must be VAT registered, which a lot of independents are, but worth checking.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Cheers everyone - ill go main dealer for the first one and then go from there0

Have you checked how much your dealer charges for a service plan. It can work out cheaper over the 3 years than paying for each service individually.0
