I suspect that a 13 mile daily commute may not be long eniugh to complete a DPF regeneration, in which case you would end up with hassle and expense you would want to avoid by getting a petrol. I'd look for a Qashqai forum for a bit more info.
When comparing diesel and petrol costs you need to also factor in different purchase prices, as well as potential additional costs for things like DPF repairs. If the petrol doesn't have a turbo or a DMF these would be other potentially costly repairs avoided too.0 -
If you do go for the QQ make sure the shocks were replaced under warranty / look ok.
That age range had a known fault and many were replaced.
Likewise there was an issue with the boot catch which caused it to rattle, the common fix was gaffer tape...
The engines are supposed to be pretty sound / reliable units so i wouldn't be too concerned with that aspect.
On the flip side:-
My dad has the C-Max (1.8 diesel in this case), 2008 model. Had it just over a year and so far it's been solid as a rock.

Have also seen a 2008 C-Max 1.8TDCi Titanium, with 25k miles on it, for just under about £8.5k.

I've heard / seen issues with the QQ and DPF but i've had 2 VAG cars that have DPF's and neither had an issue (my commutes 14 miles a day).
They always get a good run out every w/e mind so that could sort it.
I suspect a cold winter in stop/start traffic it is more liable to be an issue than a summer or a dual carriageway run.0 -

Agreed, I'm pretty sure only the newer 1.5 dci models are fitted with DPF, as the OP is looking at 08-09 pre facelift then DPF is not an issue, also form what I gather the 1.5 and 1.6 use different DPF technology and the DPF on the 1.5 is more suited to shorter journeys.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

I've had my 1.5d QQ+2 for nearly 3 years now and came from a 2.0i BMW. The performance of the 1.5d engine is great. You aren't going to win any drag races but it's torquey and more than enough for family outings and commuting.
I've not had a C-Max but certainly my QQ has been very reliable and practical all things considered. Even if it is in the garage right now after the timing belt snapped.
The proof of the pudding is we're due to replace it later this year and after a short debate in the house regarding if I go back to a BMW or QQ+2 we've decided to order another QQ+2.0 -

I've read the interval is 72k? And quite a lot seem to appear on forecourts with high 60 - 70k + miles on them.0 -

In that situation I would definitely make getting the garage to replace it prior to purchase part of any price negotiation.0 -
I think if you are paying 7-8k for a 5 year old car then, even if the car is below the recommended mileage for timing belt change, it may still be a good idea to have it done.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0
