L 47 " lcd tv - model 5020 - screen burning shadow issue??

Hi all im hoping someone can help me - we have an lg 47 5020 tv - had it about 5 yrs so its by no means new - but for the the last 3 months -ish if you leave it on pause - or spend to long looking at the same thing - ie - sky channel guide - it leaves a sort of shadow - light ghost of the image that you were on before - almost like its burnt into the screen - goes after about 30 mins - we will be after a new tv soon - but i was wondering if this is just an age thing - is common or can be fixed - or if its just not worth the hassle - many thanks

If it doesn't actually stay for ever, it's image retention, rather than burnt in. Burn in is permanent.
This is an LCD screen BTW folks, not a plasma.
If you've got the screen in dynamic mode, or up really bright, you're increasing the risk of this happening. Try changing the 'mode' to normal or cinema, which will also give a more natural image than 'WOW that's bright let's buy it!' dynamic mode.
Not that common I wouldn't have thought and I would have to guess the 'fix' would be to replace the panel, which would be uneconomical.

My TV is about the same age and shows the same symptoms, its just getting 'tired' The liquid crystals are not fully returning to their position when the electrical signal is removed. Despite seeming electronic the action of the liquid crystals twisting is still a physical event and like all mechanical things, they wear out gradually..
