I negged him...was it right thing to do?

I have had a second eBay account going for a few months now and feedback is quickly growing on it. Over 100 +itives in past month and then a neutral from a newbie just saying "arrived" - what the hell is that supposed to mean?! I was kinda annoyed, but not too bothered as its only neutral.

I checked his feedback left, and he had done the same to 2 other eBay sellers - I just feel if he bothered to check how the feedback system works he would have realised he should have left +ives.

I sent him an email explaining why I was angry he left neutral and for what reason? Needless to say no reply. So he had already left me feedback, I thought I'd neg him - why not? It will teach him a lesson to check how it all works. I left:

YOU SHOULD LEARN HOW THE FEEDBACK SYSTEM WORKS B4 USING IT - THIS IS A NEGATIVE!

Do you think it was the right thing to do? I do but I'm sure we will have diff opinions on here.

I can understand how you feel but at least they didn't leave you a negative. I recently received an item that was broken, and after emailing the person and getting nowhere I left him a negative (he had already left me a positive so couldn't neg me back).

I then noticed two other people had left him a positive even though one person said the item bought wasn't as described and the other said delivery was slow! This annoyed me. Why didn't they leave a neutral or a negative if they were unhappy?

I think Ebay should make it a clearer system altogether because it doesn't work very well at all! I have only received one negative and this was someone giving me retaliatory feedback which was completely unfair!

    Ummm.......no :D

If I was the newbie, I would liked to have been told in an e-mail how it works, then I would have e-mailed back to say 'Oops sorry, I'm still learning. How do I change it?' Then you could tell me how to do the mutual feedback thing :D

Also, you're supposed to leave feedback for the sale, not the feedback. But you already know that:rotfl:

    In my opinion? No.

You could have easily put a note under his neutral saying "A positive would have been more appropriate :)"

It's better karma than negging him for no reason other than a revenge feedback thing ;)

It's all about karma baby :A

This is where the real world and EBay collide.

If you purchased goods online that arrived as described in good order in a reasonable time and you were asked to comment, you'd probably say, "fine, no problems"

Now..... For some reason, on EBay it's.....

"BRILLIANT SELLER, FANTASTIC, TOP MAN, 5 STARS ***** TRIPLE AAA +++"

Now... See... Newbies just don't know that ;)

EDIT: A Neg Was Out Of Order IMHO.

Precisely. He paid for the goods didnt he? So why leave him a negative?

I did email him explaining it all to him, hoping for a reply but didnt get one.

I knew you guys would probs disagree with what I did, maybe I have just had enough of non payers and newbies who just dont care about the sellers they are dealing with (i.e. the ones that take 3 weeks to contact you before finally paying). Maybe I just felt the urge to leave a neg! And I did...so there I feel much better now lol

PS I am prepared to be slated... I wouldnt have created this topic if I didnt want it to be discussed - it's just that I felt it was right at the time to neg him

I have started leaving negatives for unfair neutrals. I fall over myself to sort things out for folk, enclosing a note with all sales telling buyers that if they have a problem to please contact me first and I will sort it out. So no contact and a neutral = a negative in my book.

    Well done JPS

As a matter of interest to all you sellers I hit about 10 NPB's with a strike and -ve last week and not one reataliatory -ve.......yet!!!

Ta Hintza thought I may have crossed the line, but I never usually neg, and when some newbie goes and ruins my nice shiny new account with 122 positives n no negs or neuts it just annoyed me. You work hard to keep a good track record, and some newbies should just be more aware of what they are doing before they do it.

Oh well, you won't have to worry about him anymore, he won't buy from you again, you've probably scared him off for life :D
