Mortgage lender offers free conveyancing

Hello,
I'm going through mortgage approvals for a house I'm buying next month. My potential provider, Abbey, has said that I get free legal with this mortgage and so they will do the conveyancing.
I'm not sure quite why but I have a bad feeling about it - I already have a solicitor I trust who's handling the sale of my current house.
I'm not sure I'll get the competence and service levels i want, and I'm not sure what, if any, pitfalls there are of having conveyancing tied to my mortgage provider.
does anyone have any insights or advice. I can save money by taking the "free" product, that's for sure, but it makes me uneasy. My broker has even suggesed that Abbey might insist I go through their solicitors

Its unlikely abbey will force you to go through their solicitors, especially if you explain you already have a solicitors in place for your related sale, as long as your current solicitors are on their panel it shouldn't be an issue.
The one thing I would note, is that in most circumstances "Free legal fees" do normally only cover the actual 'basic fee', you will still have to pay disbursement costs which depending on the firm may be more than you would pay with your local solicitor.0
