Guaranteed Overdraft On Student Account

First post on these here forums so please forgive me if this is a tired subject already.

I have just received a rejection letter from Halifax for a student account based on my credit rating. I'm not sure what I'm meant to do to get the required credit score. I'm about to be a student for heaven's sake. Anyway...best to forget about them.

I'm off to Uni in September and want to be organised so I am looking to open a student account soon. I am after the account with the highest guaranteed interest free overdraft limit. Its all well and good getting an account that has the ability to issue a high interest free overdraft but if I'm only going to get £500 then there's not much point.

So...Which student account offers the highest interest free overdraft guaranteed upon account opening or paying in deposit?

Thanks in advance

Edit: Forgot to say that I'm away nearly all summer so I don't want to have to wait until August even though that seems to be the best time to open one.

If your credit rating is poor none of them will be a 'guaranteed' overdraft.

As you have already been denied by one bank, it is likely you will be further denied if you apply to other banks. Do not just keep applying everywhere as each credit search leaves a mark on your file making it look worse and worse...

Your best bet is to go with your bank with which you already have a current account (i assume you do) as you may have a good 'internal' credit rating.

Chances Lloyds TSB or NatWest will accept you, but because of all the "bad debt" around at the moment you won't find any bank that will give you any guaranteed limit.

I was turned down by HBOS, my bank of 12 years, when i turned 19 and went off to Uni. Applied to Natwest, and was instantly accepted. 3 years later, my overdraft is up to £1600.

    Can't recommend them enough.
