Doggie Toilets

Hi
Does any one have any opinion of those 'dog toilets' in your garden, apparently you put the 'mess' in, put some bio stuff on top and it disintergrates and sinks into the soil.
Does it smell? is is more enviromentally friendly than the plastic bags and putting in the bin?

from what I've heard they're not that effective but it depends a bit on how many dogs you have and how much waste they produce... the activators seem to be quite expensive too.
we just get poo bags from the council and put them in our bin in winter or take them to the park when we walk the dog and put them in the bins provided.0 -

This website may give you some ideas.
I also have been reading up on what to do with dog mess, apparently you can throw it down the toilet does anyone else do this? I know I possibly sound a wee bit thick, but it hadn't occured to me to throw it down the toilet!

My Dad used to have one, didn't stink, I have 2 boys and nowhere to 'hide' one or I would get one myself. I use the loo usually (have downstairs one) or biodegradable bags if we're out.One day I might be more organised...........

GC: £200
Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
've I always put it down the loo, even when I had 3 terriers. Can't imagine what 2 weeks worth of dog crap in the wheely would smell like if we get a hot summer!.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
We've got one and it works quite well. With 3 largish dogs I thinks it's working at the limit of it's capacity though.
It's a bucket shape about a foot across and 2 feet deep, sunk into a pit of stones, pebbles and gravel. All you see on the surface is the gravel and 'dog bog' lid (green and flat).
The bottom half of the bucket is filled with water and bio activator (the top half has slots in it for drainage). During the week I load the waste into the dog toilet once or twice a day. On a Saturday morning I put the hose into the bucket and clear the dissolved waste through the slots - except some times the dogs have been eating grass which doesn't dissolve easily _pale_ . The instructions say that two buckets of water should clear the waste. Hmmm - yehright
More like 5 minutes with a strong hose. But like I say, three big dogs with healthy appetites really stretch it's capacity  ) The only time it whiffs a bit is when I have the hose in it. Other than that it doesn't smell at all.
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.
Oi you lot - please

From my experience you have to have very free draining soil (sandy) for these to work any near the way you'd expect. I never managed to get mine to work effectively with one lab and one medium sized cross breed. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0

:wall: I never thought of just flushing it down the loo!:rotfl:

I've got one of these loo's, but I had to stop using it.
It was fine when my dog (Choc Lab) was a puupy, but as soon as she started growing, the loo couldn't handle it.
No matter how many times I changed the water or added new bio liquid, it was a constant 'sludge' of poo.
It wasn't too pleasent as it attracted flys because of the smell.
Nowadays, I simply put in a carrier bag, tie it up and put it in the bin.
A lot easier0 -
My dog always does it in the same spot at the same time each day. When i let her back in the house i can see if she has done anything and if she has just done it i get some toilet paper, pick it up and flush it down the loo. If ive left it for more than a few mintues though it goes hard and i pick it up using a nappy sack and put it in my normal household waste. If she has a bit of an upset tummy i pick it up with kitchen roll and wrap it in a couple of carriers and that too goes in with the household waste. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
