BT Wireless Question

I have a BT Hub that has a blue light on where it says Wireless. I run my computer by plugging into the hub, so I am at present not using the facility but can you tell me is the Wi-Fi signal present in my house even though I am not using it?

    Yes it is.

If you login to the hub there should be an option to turn off the wireless. There may even be a switch on the hub to let you turn it off without having to login.

(I don't have BT or a hub, so I don't know exactly how it is configured, but it will be either/both of the previous methods).

If you want to leave the wireless active (e.g. for phones, tablets etc. to use) then make sure it is using a wifi access key/password.

To turn off the wireless signal (assuming it is a BT Homehub 3)

In your internet browser enter the address of 192.168.1.254 - that should open up the router admin page.

Click on Settings (you will need to enter the router password), go to Advanced Settings, then Wireless and you will see a setting which says "Wireless Network enable" with a Yes/No option.

Change to No and click on Apply.

But will that turn off the BT FON wireless access signal for Jo public to use?
    How Fon works

Fon works by putting the unused portion of your broadband to work for you. Fonera routers make this possible by broadcasting two powerful, dedicated WiFi signals. One signal is encrypted and private - it’s just for you. The other signal is public, and accessible to registered members of the Fon community. And, because you only share a little bit of your WiFi, you won't even notice when others are connected.

Some say it steals your bandwidth, and gives others access to your stuff, all we know is.......................................
That gum you like is coming back in style.

    Yes

Being part of BT FON is optional for BT broadband users.

There's a switch to turn off the wireless on the right hand side back of the hub. (as it's facing you).
