Cat flap through a brick wall - Builder or Window Fitter?

Options
Hi everyone,
Quick question as it says in the title really - we have no appropriate door to fit a cat flap into, and we could do with one really. I've seen people with them through a wall, and want to ring round and get a few quotes, but not sure who would do this sort of thing?

An ordinary builder maybe, or a window fitter? Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance
Silaqui

I have to say I don't think it's a good idea at all for several reasons

Cost, damp risk, dust, plaster damage, security and devaluation being amongst them, cheaper to get rid of the cat:D

But, if you do go ahead, it's not a job for a window fitter, and it's a job that could very easily be co*ked up by a less than careful jobbing builder.

I think you may be very surprised if you get a quote on this one.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

i guess it would depend what type of wall you want to put it through...we have a magnetic tunnel cat flap(controlled by the cats microchip) though the lower wall on our conservatory, but I wouldnt have considered putting it on in any real load bearing walls.

You might be better off considering a flap through a door,on the basis that if you ever dont need the cat flap in the future its only a door you need to replace rather than trying to patch in an awarkward hole.

When we had our extension built I insisted the architect plan for a cat flap through the brick wall. It works a treat. We had to join together several plastic bits (which you can buy along with the cat flap) to make a tunnel. The difference, I suppose, was ours was put in by the builder during construction of the extension But, I still think it's possible.

We had one put in by a builder - cost about £50 but that was about 15 years ago now.

You need a builder, it's no different to having an air vent put in a brick wall, just a different shape and with a door instead of a grille.

Did one myself a few years ago - angle ground the bricks out each side, standard cat flap on each end and bridged the gap with some cheap tiles. Took me about an afternoon, so say £100 to get someone to do it?

Mine looked fine and no issues with damp etc. Sold the house since with no worries, but do agree it may put some people off come house sale time, but as long a exterior bricks can be found again, then it's pretty easy to make it dispensary if needed

Ours goes though our back door but we had to replace the bottom panel first. Is it a double brick wall? Wont that make a long tunnel for a cat?
