    No doubt the OP will receive an apologetic letter detailing that exactly the above steps have been taken and providing the correct information.

    Mistakes do happen, I've seen similar instances reported on the forum in the past.

    I'm just suggesting that a complaint is made to be sure that the organisation is taking their responsibilities seriously.

    Yes, mistakes do happen. However, some organisations make the same mistakes over and over again. This isn't the first time I've heard of Capital One making this error. Bearing in mind that a Data controller can be prosecuted for breaches of the DPA, it's considered a very serious situation. Had this gone unchecked and the OP had been less than honest, this could have turned out very badly for someone.
    Competition wins:
    2010 - approx £450. 2011 - approx £800. 2012 - approx £300. 2013 - nothing so far!

    An assurance that it was just a one off and that processes are in place to ensure it never happens again.

    Banks have a long way to go to win back people's trust and what they do in response to complaints is a good start.
