dont worry WLITC - the airport staff aren't going to quibble if the bottles look the right size, they just won't let you go through security will full size shampoos/suntan creams etc etc.

Primark must have changed their product, because I definitely have the Primark ones, got them last year I think, and in the pack was 2 bottles the same size and 2 pots (and a funnel, which I've never used and have no idea where it is now).

I just put all my full sized ones in my suitcase. Don't need it until you get there anyway ! Why would you want to carry it all in your hand luggage ?

Some people [me included] sometimes only take hand luggage, I can easily manage a fortnight with 10kg of clothes

Boots have some decent quality pump bottles not as cheap as Primark but they do last, I use mine every week for work travel.

Unless you're going for a weekend the amount of sun cream you can put in a 100ml bottle is not enough just buy it when you get there. Especially as those bottles are often hard & you can't squeeze them. I guess you could use a few bottles but then where are you going to put your other toiletries?

Or just buy it in Boots at the airport once you're through security. Saves a lot of hassle!

Sorry to disappoint you but I have in fact had a SLIGHTLY bigger than 100ml bottle quibbled by an POF (pedantic old fart) at Gatwick 2 years ago! I say POF because it can't have been more than about 125ml anyway. I could understand if it was much bigger.

Maybe they're trained to spot the difference between 100ml and 101ml.

There's no point having a maximum volume if someone (i.e. you) thinks 'Oh well, it's only 25% bigger than allowed so it'll be OK.

ThE POF was doing his job - quite effectively, in fact. :T

Pollycat, my partner had a mostly used tub of hair wax and it was literally only going to last him the week. The staff at the airport said "there's not much in here, so I guess you don't mind me throwing it out". My partner said, "there's clearly less than 100ml so what's the problem?". The response: "but it's in a 120ml pot, so how do we know?" Um... really? You just said there was barely anything left!

The rules are very clear - the container must be 100ml or less, not the contents.

If you do take liquids in your hand luggage then:
    • containers must hold no more than 100ml

And that was your partner's problem, the container was 120ml.
