currently have a small Fuji compact- ok for general shots, though tends to white out a bit in bright sunshine (have tried every setting there is!).
Now looking for something better- confused by the vast array out there!
As long as its easy to operate, video a bonus, with decent battery life.. waterproof options welcome, for scuba on holidays too!
budget - £50-100.

The TZ range from Lumix is pretty good, got a TZ18 myself atm.
You might want to save up a bit more than £100 for something decent.

The problem of "whiting out in bright sunlight" will happen with ANY camera, if not on the right setting.
If there is a setting on your camera that allows you to "stop down" or under expose the shot, then you might not need a new camera.
"Stops" (or F stops) are indicated with + and - signs, which double the amount of light, or halve the amount of light through the aperture.
Also, if the sunlight is getting into the lens, it will cause flare, and this can be remedied using a makeshift lens hood.
Or you can just hold your flat hand above the lens (making sure it cannot be seen in the frame), if you can see the sun from where you are taking the shot.
I'm not saying don't buy a new camera; I'm just saying you could still face the same problems with a new camera, and they might be easily remedied.
Another fact to note: 99% of people don't read the manuals. If they did, they would find their cameras did a whole lot more than they thought.
I know you said "have tried every setting there is" but if your camera has a menu, it could have lots of hidden settings (settings within settings).
Good luckLook at it this way... In a hundred years who's gonna care?0 -
