Technically your Policy document will say something along the lines that any incident which may give rise to a claim needs to be notified to them. What about the other party if they issue a claim???
Sounds like you clipped their car? Surrpising sometimes how much a small bump can cost. The man without a signature.0 -
Your and the owner of the other car need to work out how to proceed.
Legally, you should both be informing your respective insurance companies.0 -
Tell your insuarnace co either way. It only affect your NCB if they actualy pay out, so if you then go on to sort it out yourself you can just tell them the issue is resolved.0

If you have a renewal due your insurance company may withhold some of your no-claims and charge you a higher premium until the matter is settled. The man without a signature.0 -
If you were at fault and you think you have agreed with the third party that you have agreed to sort it between yourselves and they then claim through their ins co, your ins co will want to know why you did not inform them.0

I'm still not convinced that it is a good idea that reporting a small accident that you sort out between your selves will have no effect on your premium. If you change insurance companies will it not turn round and bite you later on?
I can understand the dangers of not reporting it if the other party puts in a claim but ....??0 -

My partner has just had the same issue - car drove in the back of her who in turn was pushed by a third car driving in the back of him. Anyway, all exchanged deatils, and my partner was lucky in that a police car was parked on the otehr side of the road and saw it all, and then provided a statement blaming the driver at the back.
All parties informed their insurance co, but the guy at the back admited full liability, and his insurance co just rang my partner and offered to settle direct without involving her insuarance as it was their clients fault. Her insurance co are happy and no effect on NCB.
As regards it biting later I dont think so as they will ask you if the claim was your fault. If the answer was no and you still have your NCB then I am not sure how they can increase your premium0 -
You should both report it to your insurance co.,this happened to me twice, both times the other persons fault and sorted with them paying the bills, informing my insurance co.was done just in case there was a problem with the other people involved. One "small bump" ended up costing £375 to repair but the other driver paid it direct to my garage ,as they did not want to claim.
There are two sides to every story.
