Probably obvious but........

Afternoon all

Been reading on here for a bit so want to make sure I'm going to do it properly.

I've had numerous loans and credit cards and store cards since around 1996. I have no idea who they were all for but can remember most. Would I still be able to send a SAR off to all the companies who I think I have been with during this period (even if I'm guessing). I read that if it was pre 6 years then they don't have to send this as they probably wont have the info. I know some have been taken over but if I was to send it to the company at the time they should still deal with me. Companies are GE Capital, Morgan Stanley, Citi Financial, Liverpool Victoria, Virgin, HSBS, Barclaycard, that I can remember. Are these the correct places to write to or have they changed and I should be writing to another place that have took them over. I know LV definitely changed as the new company informed me but haven't got any information about any bar HSBC as I'm still with them.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks

What are you claiming for? PPI or charges?

If PPI then it's well beyond the 2005 regulation.
If charges then the banks have already won that case.

In either event, they only have to hold information for as long as they deem appropriate, with dpa regulations most institutions destroy records when their own internal policy dictates it is safe to do so.

Six years is considered best practise but some institutions will destroy records before this and some after this.

15 years is pushing it a lot.
