If the other dog's owner isn't working, and they use the services of the PDSA then they won't have any vet fees to pay, surely?
Funnily enough I've just been looking at the subject of pet insurance for my own dog, and (as Lieja points out) every insurance firm asks whether the dog has any history of aggressive behaviour ... so it'd be a bad move to lumber your dog with the 'aggressive' label just because of this incident (which, as others have pointed out, was definitely a case of 50:50 ... and it's not uncommon for entire males to have the odd 'skirmish' or three!)
I didn't know the other owner would use the PDSA when I offered to pay vet costs, he only told me yesterday.
His dog was more or less ok but still a bit off his food.
Mine hasn't been off lead since...!0 -

While that is true, it should also be remembered:... actively encourage all clients to make a voluntary contribution towards their pet’s treatment. PDSA relies entirely on public support. This year our veterinary service will cost £54 million all of which is funded by kind donations, fundraising and legacies.

They can smell a lady dog in heat from five miles away. It's Spring, there is bound to be an un-neutered female around setting them off. My dog is neutered and a lady dog
in heat still gets his attention.0 -
Jack isn't too bothered about the ladies. He will try a "cuddle" if one is directly in front of him but he wouldn't put himself out to go looking.
My last dog was a complete nightmare with the ladies though.
I'd only have to open the door to take a parcel in, and he'd streak past me, leap over the front gate and be gone.
He went missing overnight once, and I was worried sick about him, thinking of him hopelessly lost somewhere, his paws all blistered from walking.
He was spotted at lunchtime next day outside the Post Office, still bonking away, the only thing blistered was his boy bits from all the over use!0 -

I am not one of these people who think every dog has to be neutered but in your case I think you should neuter your dog.0
