My son had a windows 7 laptop for xmas, long story short its been returned as faulty and have had money back, we got the windows 7 so it was compatible with minecraft, problem is we are now struggling to find a windows 7 with the same spec as the one he has had to return so do we need to buy windows 8 and if so is it compatible as before xmas it appeared it wasn't

Why would it change? No-one is going to go out of their way to put out an update that breaks comparability with Windows 8, not unless their business model relies on charging for major updates, which Minecraft doesn't.0
