If it is possible to change I think it may be something you need to clear with the landlord first.

Hi we can change the meter to single rate, if there is no storage heating in the property. However there is a fee of around £50 to do this and other posters are right check with the Landlord if there is any mention of change of meter in your tenancy agreement. It's unlikely to bring you any short term gain against the difference in price. However if you need help e-mail us at social@scottishpower.com Hope that helps. David

Depending on the type of installation and meter, it could also entail some reconfiguring of your consumer unit/s - in which case you'll have to factor in that cost of getting a registered electrician in to do that work too.

Can I ask the Scottish Power rep why SP cannot switch the tariff over to a non Econ 7 tariff and just add the two meter readings together to get the total usage? To this simple soul it seems unneccessary to change the meter to get the same result.

Historically we have always had 2 register meters billed on 2-rates Day and night with different prices for each one as a result of the way the electricity market evolved over the years.

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Unfortunately we cannot do it, we are restricted by our billing system. We have to bill 2-rate meters on 2-rate tariffs. Sorry about that. David

Fairly obviously, even if you cannot add 2 numbers together to use 2 rate meters on a single rate tariff, you could have a 2 rate 24 hour tariff with the same rate as a single rate tariff on both readings of a 2 rate meter.

Although I do understand that being a huge corporation with enormous computing resources, this could be way out of your league.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

This post is incorrect and the Scottish power rep really should know better!

The meter fitter can always swap a dual rate meter for a single rate meter without any changes to consumer units.

Not all energy suppliers refuse to add the two readings together and not all suppliers charge a £50 fee to switch from a dual rate meter to a single rate meter.

I would suggest that mtd-142128 does a little research and then switches to a better supplier. Then a request can be made to change to a single rate tariff.

This site is about saving money and paying a higher rate for 17 hours of the day unnecessarily is not money saving.

It is true that in most cases a 2-rate meter can be swapped for a single-rate with no alteration to the consumer unit. However it is also true that some multi-rate meter installation require an additional consumer unit and therefore some work may be required. We try to offer advice and assistance on a wide range of topics and tailor it to an individual's circumstances which is why we have asked mtd-142128 for further details if they require assistance.
