I am wanting to set up a web site with the possibiliy of a chat forum on it...I am unsure where to start ie obtaining the space, cheapest options etc...please can any1 help..thanks

I normally use a fee host directory such as here:

Once you determined which features you need (e.g. Perl, PHP, SQL, etc), fill the form to get a list of suitable hosts.

Speaking of Perl, I used E-Blah in the past for my forums:

It's a great script, and the forum is very active, meaning that I always got some useful help very quickly.

Try freewebs for your first attempt, it's what you see is what you get editor (WYSIWYG) like word and I think you can upgrade to a perm site without advertising.

I should help you get stated, once you know where you're doing a little better, look at domains and PHBB
