Lloyds TSB debit card keeps breaking

Is there a problem with the current batch of (Lloyds) TSB chip and pin cards?
I've just had to order my third in as many months. All was fine up until my old one expired (had it for years), and the new one I was given in January 13 was immediately swallowed by a cash machine - it behaved almost as though it didn't recognise the card. New card ordered. Card no. 2 simply stopped working after a week - the chip was damaged so chip and pin did not work, and card no. 3 has just stopped working in exactly the same way (i.e. can be swiped but no C&P functionality).
I've been using my cards in exactly the same way for many years: I do take them out roughly once a week and carry them in a small plastic 'travelcard' style wallet (I go running and like to have a card with me in case I need it but my usual wallet is too heavy), the rest of the time they're carried in the card slots of a leather purse. So all I can think I'm doing wrong is putting it in this smaller wallet.
However, this doesn't make much sense because (a) both wallets are designed to carry cards, I never put them in my jeans pocket or anything like that and (b) I've been doing this for years without problems. It does seem to be the chip on the front that is vulnerable, but the card I had before January was chip and pin also.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is the bank going to start charging me for the new ones if this continues to happen? It's so annoying - not least because I had just memorised all the numbers in each case!!

My Lloyds debit card stopped working in December when I was doing my Christmas shopping... the first time a card has EVER stopped working for me. Great timing
Replacement card worked fine. I also then downgraded from a Premier to a normal account and the normal card works fine too. What will your verse be?

No your not alone I had this problem at the beginning of the year when my old Green Olympic one expired and was replaced with the new one with the black horse on the front.
I had to get it replaced after a month it stopped working, the replacement so far is working fine.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

I had a line of scratches along my hsbc chip which broke mine last year (only a year old card too). Kept in wallet all the time.0

Get them to replace the card as lost/stolen.
Its not uncommon for a chip to become corrupted in use (could be that the atm caused the issue) and this then gets transferred to the new chip.
If its just replaced as damaged it gets the same data, as the last chip. L/S means it a whole load of new data on the chip.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0
