How do I check if my monitors at fault?

I have a 17 inch monitor connected to my older desktop pc, recently the monitors been acting strange in the way that it doesn't always come on straight away like it used to, and also when it's been on hibernation it sometimes won't come out of hibernation and so I can't turn off the pc in the normal way. Also the other day the resolution was blurred. I've tried a new lead to no avail, so I'm assuming it's the monitor itself. As I've no other monitor to try in it's place is there any other way of checking whether it's at fault before splashing out on a new one?

Try attaching it to another computer or laptop.
Otherwise if you really have no access to that, then no there is no other way to test it.0 -
One way to test it is to take a screenshot (using the print screen button or similar) of the blurred image, mail it to someone else and see what it looks like to them. If the graphics card is faulty then they will see the same issues as you but if it's the monitor that's at fault the screenshot will look normal to them. I would suspect it's the monitor as well but his way will let you check.
