Internet connection problems

Hi, just wondering if anyone can make any suggestions.

We have a Netgear router, and a Netgear range extender.

When I switched off the computer this evening everything was fine.

I was just about to go the bed, and went to switch off my kindle, when I noticed that it only had 3G connection. The kindle is on the main network normally, and when I checked the networks available, it could only see the extension network, so I tried to join the extension network but failed. I checked my husbands kindle, which is normally on the extension network, but he wasn't getting Internet access.

My iPad has been in use throughout the evening, and is working fine on the extension network.

I've just switched the computer back on, and it's not getting an Internet connection. It says the extension network has limited access.

It's too late to start playing around now, I expect the answer will be to reboot the modem, which I'll do tomorrow.

But I'm just wondering if anyone knows why I'm still getting Internet access on the iPad, when none of our other devices can gain Internet access.

Are you sure you're getting internet on the iPad and it isn't just loading cached pages or something?

Hi there, it was definately Internet access, because I posted last nights message on the iPad (it's a wifi only one, doesn't have the 3g).

The weird thing was, shortly after I'd posted last night message I lost the signal on the iPad too.

I gave it up after that, this morning I've rebooted the router, and I've got wifi on the iPad again and my kindle. I haven't tried the computer yet, but I'm thinking it'll be ok.

It was just weird that the iPad lasted longer than everything else!

I wonder if your router is set to select channels automatically? If so, it might have decided that channels 12, 13 or 14 were free from neighbour's interference and settled on one of those.

Not sure about the ipad but the Kindles cannot see channels above 11. You may want to enter your router's setup screen and lock it onto a particular channel between 1 to 11.

I imagine it wasn't actually a problem with the internet connection or your tablet would have been affected too. It might have been a problem with dhcp and your tablet's dhcp lease took longer to expire than the other devices for example. If a reboot fixed it then probably nothing to worry about :)

Everything is working fine now, including the computer, but I've noted all your comments in case it happens again, at least I'll have a starting point

    Many thanks
