I have 8 years no claims and am an advanced driver so that may help keep it down!

Assuming you've done your advanced driving test with the IAM, have you tried their insurance scheme? They usually match your best quote, and come with other benefits.

    ......and I've always liked Volvo's...!

Right, that's it. You are clearly insane.

Step away from the new car and seek counselling..

No, i'm an advanced driver by virtue of my line of work however that makes me an IAM advanced driver if I send my certificates to them - and I don't need to take a test with them.

I didn't know they did insurance, so i'll check it out - thanks for that.

D5/T5 - best sounding engines ever made! Had two S60's, fantastic cars.
  • Although I personally wouldn't buy brand new again. We paid 45k for a fully loaded E-Class 320 diesel in 2005. We went mad and put every conceivable extra on it - luxury sound system, sat nav, leather, seats that pump up to support you when you go round corners, massage seats, air conditioned seats, cd changer, linguatronic voice control and probably more that I cant remember. Most, (especially the seat related ones) were hardly used (particularly the air conditioned seats - were rubbish!!!) roll on four years - wife hit from behind on a motorway slip road whilst stationary by a tipper truck. Car wrecked and payout took none of the extras into account.

Ouch - do they only pay out to the value of the base model then? I'm looking at taking out a 4 year GAP replacement car policy - so should the worst happen, I'll get a car of identical spec back or the money to replace it myself.
We have just bought an X6 350d for 36k. Used, 2 years old, and owned by the MD of the car dealership. Plenty of extras such as special designer leather, Msport wheels, built in hard drive for music, TV in back with wireless BMW headphones. Yes, there's plenty more depreciation to come, but the stings been taken out of it a little!

How do you find the X6? I was very tempted to get one I think they look awesome. It's a marmite car - most either love or hate them.
I have a penchant for Breitling Watches. Mrs MikeTaff (frequently) points out "THEY ONLY TELL THE BLOODY TIME!!!". Do I need to spend 7k on a watch - no. Do I want to? - YES!!!! So I do.

I love Breitling Watches. If money was no object, i'd have lots of them they are by far my favourite watch. My cousin has one and when I was best man at his wedding, he lent it to me to wear. Very, very nice piece of kit. I have one, I paid 1800 bhat for it in Phuket this year. They are "Made in Switchinternet" don't you know...! ;-)

A friend has the X90, it's huge, she once lost her children in it for two days. Fortunately she found them in the boot living wild with a pack of wolves who had taken up residence in there.

My dad had a huge Volvo estate many moons ago, it was perfect for chucking his bike in the boot when he was off to a race but was a very dull grown-ups car.

One of my neighbours a couple of houses up has an X6, my nextdoor neighbour has an S class. I know which one I prefer. The Whatcar summary of the X6 is pretty much spot on ;)

  • Guys,

Just a quick word to say thanks. I took advice and used my savings to pay the balance due and have a standing order to pay myself each month back into savings.

The car arrived 9am Friday and it is _excellent_ and i'm really happy with it.

Just got to take it easy for the next 1100 miles... :A

    Thanks again.
