STB company has been mis-billing me for the past 8 months

Hello,

I'm with an agent called STB who are based in Sheffield and they said have been mis-billing me for the past 8 months and as I am moving and asked for the closure of the account, they said I owe them over £1,000.

According to them they have been billing me based on an 'estimate' of what I would use - no idea how they know what the estimate would be!

When I asked to close my account, they said I had to provide the meter readings which I did and according to them I have paid too little. I thought it was the same price as what I was paying last year (£40+) for electricity and water.

Where do I stand on this as I most certainly do not want to pay them for an error on their part for the past 8 months.

I contacted the company who said it was my duty to provide the meter readings each month, something which he said he asked for every month (I never got the email or the mail, no idea how he has been 'telling me').

It's normal practice for energy companies to bill based on estimates if customers don't provide up to date meter readings. The energy companies themselves only read the meters once a year or so. The bottom line is you have to pay for your metered usage but it is worth checking that your opening and closing readings, tariff and payments correspond with your final bill.
