Additional card holders credit limit

Is there any way of choosing a lower credit limit for an additional card holder? Do any banks offer this for personal customers?

For example if you have a £5000 limit and want somebody to be able to spend a maximum of £1000 from it before the additional card is declined.

I know it's possible with a lloyds tsb business visa as my boss has set a £500 limit on this account.

I would like to do something similar for an ex partner to be able to buy children's clothes. But I also know if a lower limit was not set the card would not last 5 minutes and my credit rating would be affected.

I'm not sure where will do this, but it could be worth getting an entirely separate credit card account with a lower limit, and get an additional card on that.

That way it'll be easier to track who has spent what too.

Thanks for the reply. I am trying to avoid the possibility of the second card holder exceeding any set credit limit which in turn would go against my credit file.

It's a good idea but would prefer her having a separate limit if that would be possible anywhere

Firstly, I'm pretty sure this is impossible for personal CCs.
Secondly, be very cautious with this as no card provider guarantees stopping transactions when the limit is reached, although some do this in practice. All providers have a fee in place for going over the limit that you can easily get charged with.

What a brilliant feature for a progressive card company to add to their product.

IMO if you are worried in any way about an additional cardholder overspending, then DONT add them to your card!!

OP There is absolutely no chance that any card lender will do this for you.
The card limit is your limit for your own personal use as long as it is legal.
If you choose to have a secondary holder that is ok too but unless you drop the card limit to the maximum you want the secondary card holder to spend it will not work.

To do what you want they need a card and limit in their own name.

Could you not open a card cash account and transfer £500 into it as and when?

No chance of exceeding the limit then.
