Massive Eon DD Hike + Energy Club Results Wrong

I'd love some advice please.

I joined the Energy Club a while ago, input my figure for electricity and gas usage in 2012 [whole year], adding an extra 5% for electricity and 30% for gas to allow for the awful weather in the first 4 months of 2103, and the answer was that I could save £34/year by switching.

So why bother, right? Except that the club told me I spend £105/year or £8/month on fuel, whereas my DD went up from £94 to £134 late last year, an I have just had letter from Eon telling me it will go up again to £152/month when my tariff changes in July.

I really don't know what to do but these bills are massive.

My projected usage [hopefully it's not this much higher for the whole of 2103] is :

Electricity : 95.99 KwH
Gas : 1,102.44

Is anyone able to follow my ramble, and to advise me at all?

A ninety-year fix would be an excellent deal. Go for it!

It came out with those figures because you must have entered the wrong kwh.
The average electricity usage is 3200 kwh per year, and gas 16500 kwh.
95.99 kwh is just over a weeks usage, and 1102.44 kwh gas is too low assuming you have gas central heating.
I would check your figures.

Edit, just reread your post, did you input those figures or some others.

Have a look on an alternative comparison site. And make sure you bump in annual kWh figures and do not mix them up with monthly figures.

There is no way 13,000 kWh gas and 1,100 kWh electricity cost £1800 per year. You really have to sit down, look at the figures and work out what your actual consumption is and is likely to be. Or telephone your provider and ask them your annual consumption. The numbers you are posting are a nonsense.

(Edit: I guess you must have entered monthly consumption figures but left annual figures selected in your Energy Club submission)

(Edit2: or you used 1100 meter units not kWhs. Fine for a metric meter but would not cost £1800. Dual bill for an imperial meter might come to that - but that would involve a consumption on more than 35,000 kWh - an unlikely consumption. You should also check that Eon do not mistakenly think you have an imperial gas meter.)

Thanks for the replies, I got my data from my Eon *Energy Tracker, which gave me separate monthly values which I added up.

Is there a way I can convert the information I have to use the Energy Club, or any comparison site?

The energy tracker shows the average daily usage for each month not the total for the month. Have a look at your latest bill and it will give you your annual usage.

Thanks all I have sussed it. On the plan Eon have me on now I can't beat them based on usage levels, but based on the plan they are putting me on from July, I certainly can, up to £10/month variable or £8 + cashback £70 with Scottish Power for a fixed rate til September. The Top Pick with EDF that lets you fix til 2015 looks good I must say.

I guess I don't switch til just before or just after 1 July, does it matter which?

Glad you've sorted your usage levels out.

As stewie-griffin says, don't rely on our Energy Tracker for accurate details. It's a graphic representation only and is meant to help raise awareness of usage. Always best to rely on actual meter readings.

Sounds as though you're currently on our Fixed Price 5 tariff. This fixed unit prices for up to almost 2 years depending on when you joined it. It ends on 1 July.

Since then we've had a price increase and I suspect this is contributing towards the proposed Direct Debit increase. All our current tariffs will be more expensive than Fixed Price 5.

With Fixed Price 5, there's no cancellation fee for changing supplier so you can start the switch straight away if you like.

It also takes between 4 to 6 weeks to change supplier so, I suspect, the switch won't complete until after your current tariff finishes.

Hope this is of interest.

Yowsers I am glad to know that it takes so long, I'd have thought maybe a couple of days.
