National Insurance Card

Not sure if this is in the right area of the forum but I just wanted to ask on behalf of my younger brother who has received his national insurance few months back but not card has been received like I had received my national insurance card. He just has his number.

How come he hasn't received a national insurance card?

Probably more cuts. Why would anyone need a card in this digital age?

I must have had a card for decades, but I've never ever needed or used it!

Neither have I ever needed it unless I'm applying for job seekers allowance or something and having the card with your NI number comes in handy when its placed inside your wallet. My brother isn't the type of person who 'fafs' around with carrying A4 paper with his NI number on it.

When you get to a certain age, it tends to stick in your mind ... or if you need it often enough!

Anyway, no need for a sheet of A4, I'm guessing he has a mobile phone, so save it to his contacts! There's almost certainly a Notes field it could be added to.

I can remember mine as just one of them things I know off by heart. I still have my card but only ever used it once when I left school and that was it.

    I still have mine !

But I know it off by heart as I quote it every time I pick up my (repeat) prescriptions.

And of course, if he doesn't want to carry a sheet of A4 round, and doesn't want to put it on his phone, he could always write it out on a small piece of card and put it in his wallet with his credit cards.

I'm not sure if the letter informing him what his NINo is can be used for ID purposes. I know the actual card isn't accepted any more for DBS checks.

Don't you mean your NHS number for a prescription?
