As The World's Local Bank, HSBC are bring you an opportunity of a lifetime every day this week! All this week they are giving you the chance to get to know the people that inhabit some of the most awe-inspiring locations the planet has to offer.
Today, we are giving you the chance to take a trip to Brazil to spend some time with the Yanomani Indians where you'll discover just how amazing the indigenous population of the Amazon actually are. After spending 2 nights experiencing the more colonial side to Brazil in the city of Manaus, you'll head into the Urihi Jungle, which translates to 'our place – our land' in Yanomani.
Supported and built by the indigenous population, your accommodation will be a fantastic eco lodge built on stilts above the river; every hut is made from local materials respecting the surrounding environment while seeing that negative impact is kept to a minimum.
As you spend time with these incredible people you'll soon learn that just by being here you are helping them to continue their way of life. The local community once suffering from extreme poverty and the lack of economic alternative lead to the land owners cooperating in the conservation and maintenance of the area by allowing eco lodges to be built.
In return the indigenous population would remain living on the land and produce some of the items consumed at the lodge. Local people have been trained and now work closely with the lodge as guides to assist travellers whilst trekking in the forest, which is exactly what you'll get to do as we take you on canoe trips into the jungle with a local expert!
