    Thanks for all the replies. There would appear to be a wide range of thinking on the matter, but it's all good food for thought.

    I understand that, in the eyes of some buyers, it might put us at something of a disadvantage. However, as long as we fully disclose our situation when we make an offer, the worst that can happen is that our offer is refused. Some sellers might well be dissuaded, but equally some sellers might have no objection to additional breathing space. And, as has been said, the whole process might take longer than October to get to completion anyway.
