Anyone here work for any housing associations?

Ok I am filling in a form for a job at a housing association and they are asking for all employment since leaving school!
I left school in 1987 and I can only remember the last 17 years of my working life not 26 years.
Why would they want to know every year you have worked since leaving school?
I know who I have worked for but no idea on the date etc and could not even guess at it going back 26 years.
I know I will just contact them on Tuesday to ask but anyone work in the industry know why they may want to know all this?

Prime requisite for any HA position is an excellent long term memory!
Well, perhaps not, but having a blank about the first 9 years of your working life won't look good on an application form. Plenty of people can recall their work history over longer periods than 26 years.
If you left school in 1987, you probably started work soon after, so you could probably hazard a guess as to how long your first job lasted. Then try to work out the rest. Think about other events in your life and you may be able to connect the dates to where you were working. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
I don't think many people would remember specific dates that far back but I'd certainly expect somone to know the year.0

I am sure in any job you are not expected to know what happened 26 years ago.
I can remember the years but not months or exact dates started and they want all that info - specific dates etc
No big events in my life to tie up to jobs.
I think its very bizarre to be fair. I understand 10 years which I have been asked many times and that's easy but they may be trying to work out how old you are too. We’ve had to remove your signature. If you have a vague idea of the time of your, just give that. e.g. Autumn, 1913 etc.0

I can't even remember exact dates from ANY of my jobs bar 1 & that 1 wasn't even my current one! :rotfl:when life gives you lemons, stick them in your top & pretend you have pointy boobs.
When life gives you melons, stick them in your top & say you've had a boob job0 -

Have you got any relevant P45s, P60s etc you could refer to.
BTW whatever your opinion on the value of accurate previous job info, it's what the HA want and your inability to comply with their request could result in your application on the reject pile,If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
Sounds like a typical public sector form.
I'm the kind of sad person who does remember, or at least have recorded, my work history for the past 30 years (27 of which have been in the same sector).
On my CV i just cover the first 3 years with "various retail/admin jobs" - maybe do that on the form.0 -

The value of it being accurate would be that if it was NOT accurate it could be seen as lying hence wanting to ask them about it.
I never said I was not going to comply I was going to ask about it but thanksWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
