gas engineer mistake
Hi am not sure this is the correct area of the forum to ask for advice, please feel free to remove if that is the case.
i live in a rented housing !!! property with my family, on thursday 1pm EON engineer came to do the 12 monthly safety check, after he left leaving me with the 'pass' safety certificate i thought no more of the slight smell of gas thinking that it was the smoke stick they use to test the flu.
friday morning i woke up, came down stairs and could still smell gas but feeling slightly paranoid as i had a nasty cold blocked nose ect, the water heating had come on and the pilot light was also lit so i carried on about my morning, as it happens my hubby walked in from work15 mins later immediately he said we had a gas leak, rang and had the gas capped by national grid he said that the nipple had not been tightened properly, mentioned that gas normaly runs at 100 *** cant remember the letters he said, ours was 30 and they would evacuate at 28, we had been leaking gas for 18hrs by this time.
My question is that everyone is telling me we should claim for compensation as even the nat grid chappie said he cant believe that we were not blown up along with our neighbours house, i do feel that the engineer should be answerable for his mistake, but i have guilt over losing this man his job, but not wanting it to happen to anyone else. has anyone ever been through this, and also is my landlord answerable too?
any advice welcome and thankyou in advance

compensation for....Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

if you remove or loosen a nipple during a test it must be tested after using LDF complain to the company that did the testI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
lol, this reminds me of the phone advert.
"I have lost nothing, can I claim compensation?"
classic example of entitlement Britain and to think a few years ago experts told us we were rubbish at complaining lol.0 -
It does occasionally happen, a distraction can interrupt the process etc. I don't think there's any sort of compensation element to a complaint but if you felt there was some negligence in the work then report it back. It will be a disciplinary but not necessarily gross misconduct.0

Yes - for disappointment................0 -
I should certainly check that the employee was disciplined for this serious error if not dimissed. If they have not then I think compensation is the only way to go to make them take this serious error seriously. I do not believe in the compensation society we find ourselves in but this is serious & could have killed not just you but your neighbours. The very least you need is an apology in writing. How many nights since have you woken up thinking you can smell gas? A few I bet!0

Hi dasa66
I'm really sorry if our engineer caused such a potentially dangerous situation.
Was the annual check to do with your boiler or the gas safety check? If you drop an email with the details to the address in my Profile, I'll take to the relevant manager.
