Hi guys could anyone give advice on where would be good for a family holiday?
We are trying to get a last min deal and the likes of Majorca and some places in Portugal and best priced. I have never been to Portugal or the Spanish Islands so would appreciate suggestions for towns/resorts to stay or stay clear off please.
Thanks in advance.

My choice would be Alcudia in Majorca if you like swimming as it has a very long beach and shallow water, entertainment and bars , restaurants are good .It so depends what you are looking for and the age spread, The port and old town can be walked to and Puerto Pollensa a bus ride away. Magaluf in the summer is not alot of peoples choice unless you want clubbing.0

We stayed at the Vasco Da Gama Hotel in Monte Gordo - Portugal last year. We had a great time and kids seem to enjoy it as well. The hotel is good and clean and they look after you very well. Monte Gordo itself is pretty good place. You can also lose all your money at the casino ;-).
It is on the beach so no crossing of the roads or going further away from the hotel. The beach is really good.
Only downside is that it is about hour and half from the airport.
Hope this helps.0 -
I would say anywhere in Marjorca apart from south western resorts which are more party locations. Alcudia as someone has mentioned is excellent for families. Large safe beach, waterpark, nice places to visit close by.x x x0

Thanks for the help.
Where would people suggest to go in the Algarve?
My daughter is 6 so would be good to find things to do for her.
We would like somewhere that is not full of drunken teenagers but not so quiet that we could hear a mouse fart :0)0 -
I like the Albufeira Old Town on the Algarve. It is family friendly but still very lively. All of the drunken teenagers go a couple of miles away to the New Town (a.k.a. "The Strip")0

If you are travelling with a younger child my suggestions would be:
Majorca - Alcudia, Cala D'or, Puerto Pollensa or Santa Ponsa (a little livelier in July and August but still family orientated).
Portugal: Praia da Rocha / Alvor, Vilamoura, Albufeira Old Town (near to Praia Falesia) or the suburbs that are just outside of Albufeira.
Places to avoid would be:
Majorca- Magaluf , Palma Nova (in low season it's ok but high season not so much), El Arenal (not very well known but this is a bit of a german / dutch 18-30 resort in the high season).
Portugal - Most of the areas are ok but the further west you go the more quiet and relaxed it gets. Also Albufeira main strip (montechoro) .I am a Travel Agent

We've been to Carvoeiro, on the Algarve, several times - not too built up but nice cafes/restaurants & about 50 mins from the airport in Faro.

Adriana Beach Club in Falesia (Portugal)
If you're upto it....tramp across the beach to the harbour at Villamoura

And, I bet it's much better value for money than Majorca. Have a Google and see what you think.
My brother lived about 30 mins away from here and I went there when I was there. I only saw it for an hour or so and would love to go back but was not sure how it would be to stay a week there so would be interested to hear more on your time there.0 -
